CHURCH HISTORY

First Edgerton Baptist Church held its first service on November 23, 1975, in the former Albion Schoolhouse.  Pastor Phillip Erk was the first pastor, with Brian Thorstad serving as assistant pastor.  On February 29, 1976, thirteen members signed their charter and covenant.

The church moved to the Union Hall at 520 Stoughton Road in the spring of 1976.  When Pastor Erk left, Pastor Gary LaMore came as interim pastor and served for more than two years, followed by Pastor Jim Stevens.

The church moved to the Newville School when the school became available for rent.  The building was then rented from the Edgerton School District.  After some time of renting, the building was put up for sale.  Pastor Reuben E. Kile came out of retirement to serve as our pastor in the fall of 1983 after Pastor Jim Stevens felt he was being called to a church in Beloit.  Pastor Kile saw potential in the Newville School and urged the congregation to submit a bid for the building.  We purchased the building and by the spring of 1984, under Pastor Kiles fine leadership, the building was renovated inside and out.

In the spring of 1985 Pastor Kile approached Pastor Terry Pauley of the First Baptist
Church of Milton, located in the former Rock River Schoolhouse.  He realized the
churches were less then three miles apart, and preached the same fundamental Bible message.  He thought merging would be a good idea.

The churches agreed, and voted to merge, with Pastor Kile and Pastor Pauley sharing the pulpit.  The congregation also voted to change the name to Grace Baptist Church in 1986. When Reverend Reuben E, Kile resigned from the ministry at Grace Baptist Church, he had accumulated over 40 years in the ministry.  Pastor Terry Pauley served as pastor for 15 years before resigning on August 13, 2000.

A pastor search was conducted for 10 months before the pulpit committee recommended Pastor Chuck Shaw.  On June 26, 2001, Pastor Chuck Shaw preached his first sermon as pastor of Grace Baptist Church.  Pastor Chuck is single, and comes to us from Wayne, Pennsylvania.  He has served as a missionary to Spain and Russia and has some fascinating stories to tell.  We are truly blessed to have him as our pastor.
